PVA Angling Products – The Carp Anglers Best Friend
PVA Bags, PVA Mesh, PVA Tape and PVA String
You know the story, the guy in the next peg seems to be pulling lumps out and you have not had a single run. What is he doing that you aren’t? He’s probably using some form of PVA product.
The use of PVA is an absolute must for carp fishing. There is NO better way to get your hook bait within close proximity to a nice enticing bulk of free offerings. More and more anglers are using PVA products to help give them the edge. The PVA product range has grown to include PVA bags, PVA mesh, PVA string, PVA tape & more.
It can be a little confusing to know which to use and how to use them to achieve the best results. Below is a short article describing how I would use each PVA product.
PVA Bags
Using PVA bags correctly can take a little practice but once mastered may well become one of your favourite methods. The idea is to create a bed of feed to which your hook bait, whether it be boilie or pellet can sit upon.
A favourite way to use PVA bags would be to fill one ¾ full of pellet or crushed boilies and to place your hook and hair rig in the bag and add more loose feed before licking and sealing the PVA bag. This should help keep your rig tangle free and enable you to cast a nice distance. All you need to do now is cast in, set your alarms and wait for a screaming run.
PVA Mesh
Used in a similar way to the PVA bags but the PVA mesh allows you to decide how large the bag will be depending on how much loose feed or particles you want to use because you will make the PVA mesh bag yourself. PVA Mesh is now a firm favourite with top carp anglers and when used with a filing tube and a compressing tool can be very easy to use. By using the tube and compressing tool you can easily make a solid stick of ground bait and either attach this to your hooklink or push a gate hinge long baiting needle through the stick from end to end, attach link to the gate hinge and pull back through the stick. When the PVA mesh dissolves, this ground bait will start to disperse around the hook bait. Next time your on the bank be sure to give it a try.
PVA String / PVA Tape
PVA string or PVA tape is used to make ‘stringers’. A stringer is a length of PVA string to which boilies or pellets are thread onto using a baiting needle. The string method is often used if you do not want to have lots of ground bait around your hook bait but simply want a couple of extra boilies or pellets around your bait to attract more interest. It is best to string the same bait as that which is on your hook/rig. Leave a gap between each boilie so that the PVA string can dissolve.
Give the PVA a chance next time you go carping, you may be pleasantly surprised.
